Angélique Cormier is a musician, soundpainter, origamist, and DUMI-certified teacher. For over 20 years, she has been creating multidisciplinary shows, ranging from solo performances to symphony orchestras, with amateur and professional artists, in theaters and public spaces, in France and internationally.
She founded and directed the multidisciplinary Tours Soundpainting Orchestra from 2005 to 2020, which will become the YET Ensemble in 2025. She was awarded the SACD's “Ecrire pour la rue” grant in 2016 for the show “Pop Up, jeu de piste artistique,” co-created in France and New York.
She is an origami artist or, as she puts it, an obsessive paper folder, producing stage designs and shows in which she sets folded paper forms in motion. In 2023, she created temporary installations at the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice and in the temporary gardens of the Parc de la Villette in Paris. In 2025, she created a scenography of paper “colossi” for Pierre Germain and Pauline Hercule's theater company at the TNP in Villeurbanne.
She currently has several creations in distribution and in the pipeline, for young and general audiences, combining her two practices, music and paper. She is regularly invited to residencies for creation and transmission for different audiences (College of the Arts in Singapore, Lycée français de Manhattan, Institut Français de Madrid, University of Lyon, University of Tours, Centre Hospitalier du Vinatier (69), ASLD in Blois, etc.).
She enjoys being versatile, like the bicycle she rides whenever possible, and puts as much heart and commitment into folding butterflies with a group of children as she does into composing a piece with a symphony orchestra. Capturing poetry wherever it may be found is the common thread running through all her projects.
